Are we seeing the start of a trend that will disempower the recording industry?

Just how much of a blow was the victory of iiNet over those who would seek to introduce the concept of "guilty until proven innocent"?

And will others follow in the footsteps of The Mint Chicks in ditching the "big name" labels and moving to more modern and fair forms of distributing their music?

Hell, I feel like going out and buying a Mint Chicks' track just to say "thanks for showing some backbone".

Where to next for the old-school music industry I wonder?

Hopefully, yes, they will go the way of the dinosaur. But I believe it will be a long drawn out rearguard action. I'm sure they will cajole, bluster, fight, whine and threaten until the last day.

And they get so huffy when challenged, neither Sony nor the muppets at the RIANZ will respond to emails asking them to justify their silly arithmetic on their "calculated losses" and many other little inconsistencies.

OK though the Mint Chicks are - i thought it was a bigger indication of the end of music lbels when recently the material girl - madonna - decided not to re sign to any label.

Also re the labels, i too detest them. In about 1999 i used to download pritned guitar music from OLGA - the online guitar archive (i.e. someone would write the lyrics up and tell you the chord here is Cmaj7, Dmin etc). The music industry repeatdly shut OLGA down. How petty is that, Music labels make zip from sheet music and they jumped on the not for profit OLGA. I vowed then to get the buggers back some way, some how. And now (thanks to technology) i spend zero on CD music. It is more a statment of hatred towards the music labels than anything else. I want the beggers to go.

If your customers hate you, then your business is in trouble.
