Are AP shooting themselves in the foot by picking a fight with bloggers?
How dare they bite the hand that increasingly feeds them?
Do you have difficulty understanding how, in this day and age, a media giant like AP can get things so totally wrong as to try and ping bloggers for effectively promoting their wares?
How long do you think it will take for them to wake up and backtrack?
If you're a blogger, what will you do in response to AP's threats? |

Apparently, just a couple of days, and it seems it was the Drudge Retort (a parody on the Druge Report) they went after:

| The New York Times (a part owner of AP) wrote: |
Last week, The A.P. took an unusually strict position against quotation of its work, sending a letter to the Drudge Retort asking it to remove seven items that contained quotations from A.P. articles ranging from 39 to 79 words.
On Saturday, The A.P. retreated. Jim Kennedy, vice president and strategy director of The A.P., said in an interview that the news organization had decided that its letter to the Drudge Retort was “heavy-handed” and that The A.P. was going to rethink its policies toward bloggers.
The quick about-face came, he said, because a number of well-known bloggers started criticizing its policy, claiming it would undercut the active discussion of the news that rages on sites, big and small, across the Internet.

I understand that NZPA have a similar policy in respect to protecting the copyright of their headlines and links.
Naturally I intend to test this |

| One site I was cruising last night decided that they had ceased to exist as far as they were concerned but it sounds like they have woken up to how much traffic they would loose. |

we do link aggregation, to get back in to google news we need our own original content, we are about to start getting articles rewritten in india for the price of $5 us an article or so.
I know we arnt the only ones, all the majors are doing it because its cheaper than paying for the financial feeds and it creates some indipendant content.
did I also mention its much cheaper? |
